Retreat Information

Bryson County hosts accomplished and up and coming artists of a diverse variety to provide a safe and nurturing setting for inspiring work. Be you poet, playwright, author, painter, sketch artist, composer, sculptor, songwriter, or work in your own conceptual realm, Bryson County is welcoming and eager to support your creative spirit and endeavors. There is no expectation of a completed work while at the retreat. Explore, experiment, work on existing projects or something new that comes to mind while here. Retreats are typically one month in duration but can be tailored to fit the needs of each individual or group. At this time retreats are granted on a selective, curatorial basis. There is no charge to artists for retreats at Bryson County.

Materials and tools and special needs can be discussed prior to a retreat. Bryson County will be as accommodating as possible to meet your needs.

Privacy is respected and you can expect your needs to be met without intrusion.

The retreat is located in Waldo, FL. Waldo is about a 30 minute drive from Gainesville. Gainesville has an airport as well as being about a two hour drive from the Jacksonville and Orlando airports. Gainesville is the home of the University of Florida, Florida’s flagship university. The city is host to a vibrant arts and cultural community of its own and has all the resources of a small city.

Groceries and other items can be delivered to the property so you don’t have to leave if you don’t want to.

Ecological conservation is a priority at Bryson County and the property is conscientiously managed with conservation principles.

Lake Santa Fe and Hickory Pond are both beautiful, blackwater, sandy-bottom lakes surrounded by cypress that are quiet spots for inspiration, contemplation, meditation, yoga, plein-air painting, writing, sketching as well as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and standup paddleboarding. The 200-acre property mixed with loblolly pines, cypress, live oaks, swamp heads, ponds, and expansive pasture is a lovely setting for walking and creating.
